About This Blog
Stories, Reflections, and the Craft of Writing
Welcome to My Corner of the Internet
Thank you for finding your way to Novelist Notions. Whether you discovered this blog through a search for writing advice, stumbled upon it while exploring thoughts on mental health and creativity, or found yourself here after reading about baseball and tradition, I'm genuinely glad you're here.
My name is Greg Roberts, and this is my space for exploring the intersection of writing, mental wellness, and authentic living. What started as a personal outlet for my midnight thoughts has grown into something I hope provides value to others who are navigating their own creative journeys.
What You'll Find Here
This blog is built around a few core themes that matter deeply to me:
- Writing and Creativity: I write about the craft of writing—not from the perspective of someone who has it all figured out, but as someone still learning, still struggling with blank pages, still discovering what authentic voice really means. You'll find posts about different writing methods, overcoming writer's block, and the relationship between personal experience and creative expression.
- Mental Health and Wellness: I'm open about my experiences with anxiety and depression, not because I want to overshare, but because I believe honest conversations about mental health can help others feel less alone. I explore how writing serves as therapy, how creativity and mental wellness intersect, and practical approaches to taking care of yourself as a creative person.
- Personal Reflection: Many of my posts emerge from my midnight journaling sessions—those quiet hours when thoughts flow more freely and honestly. I write about introversion, authenticity, the challenge of sharing personal work, and the ongoing process of figuring out how to live meaningfully.
- Occasional Diversions: You might find posts about baseball (I'm admittedly old-fashioned about the game), fountain pens (yes, I'm that person), or whatever else captures my attention as worth exploring in words.
My Approach
I don't claim to be an expert on anything except my own experience. What I offer is honest reflection, careful observation, and the perspective of someone who takes both writing and mental health seriously. I believe in the power of authentic storytelling—not the performative kind that social media often encourages, but the real kind that helps us understand ourselves and connect with others.
My writing process is deliberately analog at times. I do much of my initial thinking with fountain pens in paper journals, usually late at night when my internal critic is finally quiet. There's something about the tactile experience of pen on paper that opens up different kinds of thinking than typing on a screen. These midnight pages often become the foundation for the posts you read here.
Why I Write This Blog
I started this blog because I needed a place to process my thoughts about writing, creativity, and life in general. But it has become something more—a way to contribute to conversations about mental health, authentic creative practice, and the challenge of staying true to yourself in a world that often rewards performance over authenticity.
I write for people who might be struggling with similar questions: How do you balance vulnerability with privacy in your creative work? How do you maintain mental wellness while pursuing meaningful artistic expression? How do you develop discipline and craft while honoring your natural creative rhythms? How do you find your authentic voice in a crowded digital landscape?
I don't have definitive answers to these questions, but I have thoughts, experiences, and ongoing discoveries that might be useful to others navigating similar terrain.
My Background
I'm not a published novelist (yet), though writing fiction remains a goal. I'm not a licensed therapist, though I've learned a lot about mental health through personal experience and research. I'm not a professional blogger or digital marketing expert—I'm just someone who believes that honest, thoughtful writing can make a difference, even in small ways.
What I am is someone who takes writing seriously as both craft and practice, who believes in the therapeutic power of putting thoughts into words, and who thinks there's value in sharing our struggles and discoveries with others who might be facing similar challenges.
What Makes This Blog Different
In a digital landscape full of quick fixes and clickbait headlines, I try to offer something different: depth over speed, authenticity over optimization, genuine reflection over performative vulnerability. My posts are longer than typical blog content because I believe some ideas need space to develop properly. They're personal without being confessional, practical without being prescriptive.
I write for people who appreciate nuance, who understand that meaningful change happens slowly, and who are looking for genuine connection rather than easy answers. If you're someone who values authenticity over authority, process over perfection, and honest exploration over confident proclamation, you'll probably find something of value here.
Community and Connection
While I'm the sole voice behind this blog, I deeply value the readers who take time to engage with these ideas. The best conversations happen in the comments section, where readers share their own experiences, ask thoughtful questions, and contribute perspectives I might not have considered.
I encourage you to join these conversations. Whether you agree or disagree with something I've written, whether you have a question about a particular post, or whether you simply want to share your own experience with creativity and mental wellness, your voice adds value to this space.
You can reach me through the contact page for longer conversations, collaboration ideas, or just to say hello. I read and respond to every genuine message, though it might take a few days depending on my schedule and mental bandwidth.
Looking Forward
This blog will continue to evolve as I do. I expect my understanding of creativity, mental health, and authentic living to deepen over time, and I hope that growth will be reflected in my writing. I may explore new topics, experiment with different formats, or dive deeper into subjects that prove particularly resonant with readers.
What won't change is my commitment to honesty, thoughtfulness, and the belief that sharing our experiences—both struggles and discoveries—can help create the kind of world where people feel less alone and more understood.
A Personal Note
If you're reading this, you might be facing some of the same challenges I write about—creative blocks, mental health struggles, the tension between authenticity and privacy, the difficulty of maintaining meaningful practices in a distracted world. If so, I want you to know that you're not alone in these struggles, and they don't disqualify you from creating meaningful work or living a meaningful life.
The fact that you're seeking out thoughtful content, that you're willing to engage with complex ideas about creativity and wellness, that you're looking for authentic voices rather than easy answers—these are signs that you're on a worthwhile path, even when that path feels uncertain.
Thank you for being part of this conversation. Thank you for reading, for thinking, for sharing your own experiences in the comments. Thank you for believing, as I do, that honest writing and genuine connection can make a difference, one reader at a time.
Stay Connected
New posts typically appear weekly, though the schedule varies based on what I'm processing and exploring. You can subscribe to receive updates, though I promise never to overwhelm your inbox or share your information with anyone else.
If you find value in what you read here, the best way to support this blog is to share specific posts that resonate with you, engage thoughtfully in the comments, and continue the conversations in your own life and creative practice.
Welcome to Novelist Notions. I'm honored you've chosen to spend your time here, and I hope you'll find ideas worth thinking about, struggles worth sharing, and connections worth maintaining.
